An EU-wide patent and a European patent litigation system?
The registration of patents in European countries, particularly in the phase after granting a patent, is extremely expensive and complex. The current situation hinders the spread of innovative solutions on the EU markets. Therefore, the European Commission has submitted legislative proposals that shall radically reduce the cost of patents in Europe by up to 80 percent. The introduction of an EU-wide patent and a European patent litigation system shows slow progress due to the lack of agreement among the Member States. Nevertheless, the Commission hopes that already in 2013 the first uniform European patents will be granted. Therefore, you need to prepare now for these new patent instruments!
