EU Funding for Energy 2016 - Financing Energy Projects in Europe and Beyond
03. March 2016 - 04. March 2016, Arcotel John F
New Horizons for Funding and Financing of Energy Projects in the Programming Period 2014-2020
The European Union is striving for energy independence. As a consequence, increasingly more money gets allocated to the funding and financing of private and public energy projects in Europe and beyond. This includes increased cooperation and funding possibilities for (potential) candidate and neighbouring countries. Furthermore, the new programming period 2014-2020 opens up completely new horizons for energy professionals by creating:
new funding and financing instruments to be accessed for energy projects (like the European Fund for Strategic Investments [EFSI]) as well as
new possibilities of blending funds in order to create synergy effects
Public and private energy companies (ESCOs), Energy service companies (ESCOs), municipalities, research facilities, and universities and, last but not least, private companies (especially SMEs), interested in funding & financing possibilities for energy projects in the array of research, building and infrastructure, can look forward to strong support from Brussels: Cohesion policy (ESIF) will allocate an estimated total of 36 billion EU to building and infrastructure investments in energy efficiency, renewable energies, smart grids and urban mobility. Horizon 2020 will designate approximately 5.4 billion EUR to research and innovation in „secure, clean and efficient energy“. The newly created European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), established within the European Investment Bank (EIB), will mobilise at least €315 billion in additional investments.
